The melodica is a five finger instrument with piano-like keys. The children can push the buttons with one hand to make music. With the other hand they hold the mouthpiece into which they blow air. In this way, the future writing hand is challenged at an early age. Making music on the melodica stimulates many regions of a child’s brain, including those which are particularly important for the development of writing. The children sing a lot in these lessons, accompany themselves using Orff instruments, learn nursery rhymes, finger games and acquire their first knowledge of musical notation.
